NEW LIFE FOR MERE CREEK!
Harris Golf of Bath has taken over operation of Mere Creek Golf Course at Brunswick Landing(the former Naval Air Station Brunswick), according to an announcement made by the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority.
MRRA has helped to establish several high-profile tenants at Brunswick Landing–including Kestrel Aircraft Company, Mölnlycke Health Care, Resilient Communications, Flight Level Aviation and Maine Tool and Machine. Civilian air traffic began on April 2nd at what is now called “Brunswick Executive Airport” (BXM). Establishing an operator for the golf course is the municipal corporation's latest achievement.
Harris Golf owns and/or operates facilities throughout the state—with Mere Creek, a total of 8 golf courses. The locally-owned, family-run company's portfolio includes well-known eighteen-hole tracks such as Sunday River Golf Club (Newry), Old Marsh Country Club (Wells), Penobscot Valley Country Club (Orono) and the private Falmouth Country Club.
But “nine-hole courses like Mere Creek make up an important piece of our business, too," says Harris Golf President, Jeff Harris. "And bringing Mere Creek on board provides an opportunity for us to offer a brand new, three-club Membership to the region." Members at Mere Creek will also be considered members of nearby Highland Green (Topsham) and Freeport Country Club.
"All three of the clubs are 15 minutes apart from each other," explains Harris. "And each is a better, stronger facility when taken with the other two. It essentially gives a member 27 holes to choose from. This is great news for golfers in the Midcoast area."
"Bringing Harris Golf in to operate the golf course here is a big deal for us and for the area," says MRRA Deputy Director Jeffrey Jordan. "It's an important piece of the Reuse Master Plans for the former base. We're very excited to see this particular company take the reins at Mere Creek."
